New
fusion music trio to perform at Romolo outdoor concert series July 16 Inventive, eclectic fusions of musical genres are
happening across the globe. But on the evening of July 16 from 6 to 9 p.m. the
new Romolo Chocolates Friday Music Series is offering its own “fusion” of
world-renown musicians who recently formed the Grey
Fiuczynski Throckmorton Trio along with Erie-renown Romolo ice creams and
treats – all in the family friendly atmosphere of the chocolate maker’s
outdoor piazza. “We wanted to do something you see in bigger
cities and all across Europe,” explains Tony Stefanelli, who created and owns
the Tuscan-style sweets plaza at 1525 W. 8th St. “My passions are
music and chocolate, and the concert series is a total sensory experience. This
is really a customer and community appreciation series. We want to create
memories in a city oasis setting that people will hold onto.” Romolo
Chocolate’s outdoor piazza is surrounded by shimmering cottonwood trees and
bordered by the west branch of Cascade Creek which runs through Frontier Park,
directly across the street from the chocolate plaza. Stefanelli has been involved in the Erie jazz scene
for many years and frequently plays bass in the local trio Cat’s a Bear. His
music connections have enabled him to line up groups like the Tony Grey world
fusion trio, whose members have played the top jazz festivals and locations
around the world, including a gig for Grey at New York’s Lincoln Centre with
His Holiness the Dalai Lama in the audience. The new Grey Fiuczynski
Throckmorton Trio offers jazz roots with a modern western groove and ethnic
influences including Middle Eastern melodies. British-born bass guitarist Tony Grey has performed with some of the world’s greatest
musicians including Herbie Hancock, John McLaughlin and Branford Marsalis, to
name but a few. He was a member of the popular group Bliss, which scored four
top-ten singles and three MTV videos in the 1990s. Grey’s current CD is
“Chasing Shadows” and he continues to perform around the globe with many
other talented, forward-thinking musicians. “We usually play late, in bars and
clubs,” Grey says of his new world fusion trio. “We’re looking forward to
the really relaxed, outdoor atmosphere at Romolo’s. We’re hoping lots of
families and people of every age and taste will drop in to check it out,” he
adds. (To listen to his music, find out more about his work, and access photos,

“FuZe” (pronounced fuse ) Fiuczynski is a sought-after global musician
who holds the patent on originality. He plays double-neck fretted – as well as
fretless and one-quarter tone – bass and is lauded for his lush microtonal
sounds, blending Chinese, Indian and Arabic-inflected melodies with high energy
funk, rock, hip hop and jazz. FuZe
has recorded and toured with Stewart Copeland, Hiromi, Hasidic New Wave, and
many others. He has performed and headlined at major festivals in New York,
Montreal and Paris, as well as appearing on Jay Leno, Arsenio Hall, the BBC and
NPR. Check out his new CD, “KiF Express,” at http://www.torsos.com/. Keeping the new trio phat and rocking is
Pittsburgh-based drummer David
Throckmorton, who has frequently accompanied legendary jazz trumpeter
Maynard Ferguson as well as singer-songwriter Bill Deasy, Michael Glabicki of
Rusted Root, vocalist Dianne Schurr and guitarist Reb Beach of Winger.
Throckmorton has led the creative improvisational ensembles Beam, Thoth Trio and
Smash Your Wagon. He teaches privately and has performed numerous clinics and
master classes around the globe. Check him out at www.myspace.com/beamband
